Healthy Eating - FPS overview

After reading the overview provided by Mrs. Kiburis discuss the following:

  • Why do you believe so many individuals today are finding it dufficult to successfully achieve healthy lifestyle?
  • According to scientists and nutritionists, the continual consumption of fast food and convenience food items represents an "obesity time bomb".  What do you think they mean by this, and do you personally agree or disagree with their conclusion?
  • In what specific ways do you feel ongoing sleep deprivation endangers healthy living?
  • What impact (if any) do you believe fast foods, convenience foods, sleep deprivation, stress, lack of physical exercise, and related unhealthy entities and trends of today will have on the lives of individuals in the coming generations?

  1. -they follow the examples of the people around them
-i think they are saying that if we continue consuming unhealthy foods at the rate we are now, it is only a matter of time before the obesity rate increases substantially
-ongoing sleep deprivation is very harmful on your body and makes you less motivated to live in a healthy way
-i believe that future generations are going to be very immobilized and helpless

  2. -In this society everyone is always rushing around from one place to another. This makes it difficult to find time to exercise. Also, people want meals on the go, and fast food is the easiest way to do that.
-I think they mean that eventually, obesity is just going to get out of control and by then it will be too late to stop it.
-It makes people tired which makes people sluggish and when you're tired and sluggish you don't want to exercise!
-Coming generations won't be expected to stay in shape. Obesity will just become a way of life, like in the movie Wall-E.

  3. :In this generation, unhealthy things are everywhere. Most people are busy, and finding time to be "healthy" is not always relevant to their schedule.
:I believe that this means that if we keep being unhealthy, eventually we're all going to have problems with obesity and other unhealthy things.
:People become irritable and lethargic. When they become these things, they generally don't want to do anything that is against their own will power.
:Like I said before, if we continue to be unhealthy, it will have negative effect on us. Then it will just be part of our successors' world & that won't be a good thing!!!

  4. - I think people in today's society find it difficult to maintain a healthy lifestyle because "unhealthy" options, like processed foods/fast food are often more convenient and less expensive than "healthy" options.
    - I think they mean that obesity is a constant underlying problem that we must address before it gets too large to control (no pun intended). I agree with their conclusion because the longer we as a society are exposed to unhealthy living options, the more these options will become ingrained in our collective psyche; in other words, the longer we let this go on, the more difficult it will be to change it.
    - I feel that sleep deprivation is a problem in today's society because when people are tired, they are more irritable and less likely to put in the extra effort to make healthy decisions.
    - I believe that today's situation could go one of two ways: either we will continue to gradually destroy our collective health, or we will learn from our mistakes and turn things around before it's too late. Personally, I feel that the former is much more likely.

  5. I think we will either eventually destroy ourselves or finally realize that we need to do something about our eating habits. We need to come up with an alternative to fast food. If there was a cheap, fast way to eat healthy it would help out. I think people are too lazy to make healthy foods if there is unhealthy food that is easily accessible. If we did these things, we would be healthier.

  6. *They do not get enough exercise, they get food that is bad for them because it is easier, they do not get enough sleep ,and they are really stressed out.
*This means if they keep eating like this they will become obese. I partly agree with this because if you do not exercise enough and eat this way you will become obese, but if you exercise enough I think you will not become obese.
*It causes you to become less motivated, cranky, and it is just not heathy.
*Future generations will become less and less healthy and the life expectancy will go farther down and we may some day go into a dark age.

  7. I think that it is so hard for people in today's society to achieve a healthy lifestyle because of the availability of fast food and convenience foods. I agree completely that fast food and convenience foods are creating an "obesity time bomb" because if people continue these unhealthy lifestyles, then the chances on them becoming obese increases dramatically.
I think that sleep deprivation can lead to the causes of not having the adequate diet. If you are too tired, then you may not want to waste time making your own food, so you would go to a drive thru or make a processed meal.
I think that children in future generations will be able to look back and see how these things effected us now and they won't want to have the same unhealthy habits because they won't want to turn out like people of today.

  8. - because nobody in their daily lives is really pushing them to try to change their lifestyle
-that soon everyone will have these eating habits and it'll be natural for people to eat this way. so inevitably everyone will be obese. I agree with them
    - by making our bodies weak. and wont have any will power to do anything.
-it'll become a lifestyle to not be active. It wouldn't be a big deal to people that that is the way their lives/bodies are.
